I’ve read a lot of complaints about the pie eating scene, if you’ve ever had someone close to you die unexpectedly this scene will make sense to you. It’s supposed to show the weird, illogical things people do when they’re grieving and, importantly, think they’re completely alone.
It’s so excruciatingly long because it helps show how grieving affects us on a level of time, after the death we think about it every moment and a day feels like forever. The movie then jumps ahead in time to show how it gets easier and only certain things remind us of that person.
If you’re bored by it I’m sorry, but I’ve never seen a movie that reflected that feeling so well and purposefully made it seem so uncomfortable, real, and stretched out.
Just like how some songs or paintings will or will not affect you on an emotional level this movie may or may not reach you. If not, then at least you didn’t waste two hours rewatching the same tv show for the third time or distantly scrolling through Facebook.
