This game is a great comeback for the series. While I fear getting 100% on this game will be a nightmare, it is just what the sequel should be.
I would compare this game to the first and second, except this game is massive in size. I'll estimate about 25 unique levels, with 15 or so of those with different perspective (where you play part as a different character), each edition has an inverted version (right to left as well as a color shift), and something like 21 flashback tapes with nostalgic music that get really challenging. Each level addition has 6 gems to obtain, 3 coming from the amount of fruits you collect, 1 from all crates, 1 from dying 3 or fewer times, and 1 hidden in the level. Totaling over 500 gems in the game I believe. Boss fights were all pretty cool. Cutscenes all great. Masks were an interesting addition, my personal favorite has to be the dark matter mask.
Overall very good platform game that comes with its challenges. I could see 100%ing this game taking hundreds of hours taking into account the platinum time relics on all versions of every level.
Also, you can choose to play the game with or without a lives counter. Instead, you'll have a death counter on each level. Downsides to this is that bonus level feels pointless at times and no value in getting crates outside of the gems.
I'd say you get what you want from the game. You can choose to replay the levels and do the different perspectives and inverted editions or you can simply run through one time, get few crates, and be done. 5 stars
