Honestly this game is just average when compared to other total war games. The gameplay was what I have had before when playing other total war games. It's really telling when the most recent total war game I played before this was Rome II and I barely noticed a difference. I was also pretty disappointed with how they handled the Troy theme with the mixing of both the historical setting and mythical setting. In the trailer it seemed like you could control these bad ass mythical units from Greek mythology to fight on your side to really hammer in the setting. But instead all you get is these weird not-mythological creatures which are just more op humans. This is the attempt to mix the historical setting of the bronze age with the ahistorical setting of the Iliad and it doesn't mix well. If anything it hurts the total war series in the long run because of the attempt to mix both will make any game that will try to go harder on one direction will be shot down since "we already made a game like that before." It doesn't please historical fans because it takes place in an ahistorical setting and thus will never be historically accurate and it doesn't please the fantasy fans because it doesn't go the full mile in the fantasy setting that would make the game interesting.
If this is your introduction to the total war series please find a different game. Although this is total war it's nothing new or ground breaking and there are much better titles out there. If your a veteran of the series don't buy this game. It's just the same total war you've had before.
