If you prefer the overly-idealistic soapbox style of the original Star Trek AND think that's the only good way to tell a story in the Star Trek universe, you won't enjoy this. If you're open to a show that has a more realistic take on what that universe would actually be like, while having some of the humor of shows like Rick and Morty or Camp Camp, you will absolutely like Lower Decks.
Long-time fans of Star Trek can and do thoroughly enjoy this show. There are plenty of references and call backs for fans that clearly show the love the creators had for the original series. You simply also need to be able to accept some of Star Trek's faults as well to enjoy poking fun at them.
And for those who never really got into Star Trek before, you don't need to have a deep knowledge to enjoy Lower Decks. It's a fun series with enjoyable characters that can stand on its own. The stories focusing on these lower position characters, having to do the grunt work while their superiors only care about prestige is something that anyone who has ever worked for even a medium sized business can relate to.
