At the surface level, Katla seems like a sci fi mystery with its usual elements. Dig deeper and you will realize its a show that questions existentialism. With episode titles like 'This is not Him', 'I am You', the show holds a mirror to ourselves.
Themes of redemption, forgiveness and acceptance echoes across all episodes. Its a show that questions what would one do if we faced our better/worse versions and if life gave us a second chance with our dear ones. The metaphysics of identity is well explored and the show feels like watching the famous thought experiment, The Ship of Theseus, unfold before us.
The narrative is not as gripping as Baltasar Kormákur's earlier show, Trapped, but this show is relevant to our times.
