Pushed on til pg. 77, then gave up. After hearing the NPR interview with Ishiguro, both my sister and I rushed to order the book. Then, sadly, we both abandoned it. I felt disconnected from the story and characters. Life is too short to read books that I want to like.

I love memoirs. And I love stories of dysfunctional, alcoholic and troubled families. I was raised in one. But I couldn't finish this book fast enough. The sickly, codependent relationship the writer had with her mother gave me the creeps. I kept waiting for her to break from the grip of her narcissistic mother. I wanted to like it more, but it just kind of bummed me out.
