For my money, Adam Sandler in "The Waterboy" (1998) is the funniest movie I've ever seen. I noticed that 90% of viewers liked it, which was the exact same percentage that liked "Animal House"!
But it's a lot harder to be funny in 2020 than it was in 1978. Back then, things got laughs that would never dare be included in movies now.
Look at comedy now. Nothing is funny really, is it? Not unless you find "South Park," Dave Chappelle, or "The Daily Show" funny: they can make you smile at times, but laugh? Not me.
I like all 3 of "The Hangover" movies, and they have a lot in common with "Animal House." They don't make me laugh, but I find them "pleasant" to watch, and I don't get tired of re-watching them!
