Good premise, but it seems to go on and on about Annie's life. It would be nice if we learned bits and pieces of her life through dialouge instead of the author just rambling on for pages and pages about who she was. This book definetly tells a lot more than shows. Kind of overrated and boring.

Honestly, if its "good or not" really depends on how you are looking at it. As a window looking into African culture, language, and ways of living, it's great. But as a book, it is dry, slow-moving, and generally un-captivating. There really is no plot until the very end, some chapters really just are useless, the characters all blend together since they don't really have any different traits, and don't even get me started on Okonkwo. What an unlikeable character, who's actions can't even be justified. EXTREMELY boring. For a school book/cultural exploration book, it's pretty decent, I guess, I've read worse, but if you are just looking to read this book for fun, DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Yeah I'm still reading it sometimes it can feel slow. I think, so far, it's not really focusing on Luna that much. I also think the name of the book is a bit silly. But yeah it's a unique plot and interesting characters and I just saw a review that said: "NOOOO XAN" so if Xan dies at the end I don't like that. I like it a lot. bye

THIS IS A REALLY GOOD BOOK! It desirves a medal, it's really underrated. I just got the second book, "three keys" for christmas, so I'm excited to read that, too! Mia has such a kind heart and smart spirit, and I love how they kept returning to the quote: "Everyone else are cars. your a bycicle" which slowed down Mia's optimisim, but she was persistiant anyway. Its better than the war that saved my life, Because of whinn-dixie and all of those books! I love the themes of racial discrimination and immigration, something the children of today need to learn about and that really captured that. I like Mia's friend she was really sweet. I also loved the ending (SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!) when Mia's family becomes the owner of the calvista hotel, and they all are having a party. "Stop hanging out with those losers!" Mr yao said to Jayson, but Jayson said: "No dad, I'm hanging out with the winners."

It was good for a while, until the plot slowed down and nothing really interesting happened. Some of it was good-I loved Ada's character, and her determined spirit, but it was pretty inacurate because Ada would look out the window to the city and see grass. Really, she's 10 years old, even if she was locked up her whole life Jamie probably would have at least told her about grass. Because of the child abuse I wouldn't recomend it for little kids. When they escaped I liked how Ada saw a horse and wanted to ride it. After that when they got adopted by Susan Smith, I liked the "even though she was not a nice person" description. But after that, things got uninteresting and repetitive. I tried to keep reading but I couldn't, you didn't even know what the story problem was eventually at that point. Although I did like it when the teachers tied Jamie's left hand to the chair and the red spot reminded Ada of when she tied him that was good author's craft. I know everyone is going to get mad at me, but I think there are deffinetley better books out there on world war I (or world war II, I forgot, sorry).

This is an extremley well-written story, the description and authors craft was just incredible. The cover illistratun and inside drawings are also beautiful and capture the scene. Unlike a lot of stories out there, Miyax (Julie) Is a great character, I love her determination and curiousity. I got this book in a book club for school. I remember being like: "Oh no, another ridiculous book club book." But it was amazing, so good I bought the book for myself after book club. Characters: 10 Plot: 10 drawings: 8 Overall rating: 10
