Ultimately a disappointing film, but the sets, costuming, and cinematography are stunning. The film lacks a discernable plot. It seems as though we watching metaphor after metaphor, Anne Bolynn, Henry VIII, the fog, the broken fence, the scarecrow, etc., in a strange depiction of Diana’s internal struggle. It is not at all what I was expecting from a period drama and it isn’t a period drama. The film feels very self indulgent and at times like a fashion shoot. It is beautiful to watch and Kristen Stuart is entertaining, but at no point was my belief suspended.
