I think there is a heaviness to this movie that makes it feel like it clunks along. It’s like I can’t put my finger on exactly why I don’t like it. All of the actors do a good job, but it lacks chemistry and charm.
The music is completely forgettable and I can’t understand why they put BMX bikes in the movie. If it is set in the 1930s, embrace the 1930s.
The movie just feels heavy. I know there needs to be a conflict to overcome, but why do people have to be so mean? If there was less meanness, more catchy songs, a lighter feel to it, and more editing, this would have been a charming movie. The first Mary Poppins was charming. Why does everything have to be so mean these days?
The mean banker and the wolf references could have all been nixed and it would have been so much better.
