It's a bit early to make too many judgements, but I honestly just feel that the character/writing quality is lower than The Boys. I think The Boys excelled at writing complicated and nuanced characters that felt real despite all the craziness that goes on in the show. Gen V on the other hand feels like a fan-fic set in The Boys Universe written by a skilled 16 year old. Now, I don't mind a nice fan-fic but nuance or general subtlety is nonexistent as characters will just state exactly how they are feeling or what is going on constantly, making the attempts at more heartfelt "heart-to-heart" moments fall flat. The characters just feel shallow, and a lot of the show feels like it is going through the motions or just checking off some boxes. So, far I have been able to predict everything that has happened (character development and story beats wise and such- not blood bending your period blood predicting, though I did predict her parents dying from it so maybe it counts?)
The show isn't horrible or unwatchable but it is boring once you get past all the shock factor gimmicks they do. I just don't care about any of the characters, and the plot itself is lackluster with Luke dead for most of it. I feel like killing Luke off so early killed any sense of urgency, and engagement with the story. Luke was actually pretty compelling and seem to have a lot going on in his head, and the actor did a good job of being charismatic enough and selling that he really loved his brother. So it would of been nice to see him investigate/purse his bother for a while. It would probably also help with things not feeling so stagnant in the story, despite the plot moving forward. And I will be honest I don't care for Marie at all. I am not sure if it is because I don't find the actress to do that well of a job (sorry)/sell it enough or if the writing is just not the best. But I find her somewhat annoying compare to the other characters, and just flat out unrealistic. Grew up in the superhero foster care, with everyone scared/hating you but you act like you are a amish mennonite seeing the world for the first time? Correction: Blood bending Amish Mennonite*
I could say more but this is getting way too long and you get my point by now.
