This is a strange movie! It has beautiful scenes, landscapes, love making, and shimmering. It has horrifying scenes. Natalie Portman’s character has a particularly great scene as she steadfastly keeps shooting a terrifying giant alligator that is advancing towards her. The movie is not the book, a novel by Jeff VanderMeer by the same name.

I just finished this film, and am immersed in the questions and ideas that the film explored. I’m slow; I can’t connect all the dots about what art should be and what the role of art in life should be. And then connect those dots with this actual film. Fortunately I watched a DVD and I can watch it again!
