I’ve only watched about half of Season 1 so far. As a fan of Star Trek, I feel like McFarlane and Co ‘get’ what made the early series’ both compelling and charming - characters I grow to love, a hopeful vision of inter species acceptance and cooperation, a bit of camp, humor, heart, imagination, and topical stories that wrap up in a single episode. It’s been a long wait. Thank you, The Orville!

It was a word-of-mouth thing. My husband got the word from his sister and I joined him when he had gotten hooked. I wasn’t quite prepared for the almost cartoon-like acting, and he urged me to take the time to let the characters get under my skin. I did and they did! So well written, laugh-out-loud funny and touching. I love the show’s treatment of gay relationships, mercifully avoiding tiresome conflict and non-acceptance tropes. I was also relieved that the story and humor do not follow a relentless stream of humiliations and disappointments, but rather, are focused on pluck, optimism and growth.
