Left me wanting more than it had to offer.
We are constantly TOLD Maxine is a star but rarely shown it. She is a badass and I love her. What’s so jarring is that ‘Maxxxine’ had so much potential to be an interesting character study. We see her battle with past trauma coming back to torment her, but this is never explored past scary flashbacks or seeing pearl in a window (yawn).
She is a passive character and her relationships with other characters are barely there, making the kills feel pointless and unimpactful. Maxine nor the plot is not fully fleshed out which is really disappointing.
There are some great kills but they also feel oddly paced, which is another issue i had with this movie. There being so many directions the film wants to go in makes it drag a bit in the first 2 acts but then it abruptly wraps up with little sense. Maxine’s murderous build up could become something spectacular but then it just stops?!
This movie is very confused about what it wants to be and was a disappointing end to the trilogy, as beautiful as it was. 2.5 stars
