It was kinda ok but suffered from Peele-ism: Taking something that deserves depth and nuance (two things! American Racism and HP Lovecraft) and promptly treating it so audiences will feel woke, rather than exploring the subject with empathy or depth.
It's the modern version of Spiritual Bypass: "Oh look! We put a black person in what's usually a white role! You can feel good, America!"
Total nonsense; Peele shouldn't be given a camera again until he practices some more. Give this show to someone who treats important subjects with not just entertainment but also a dose of empathy, nuance, and a keen eye for emotional impact. We are at what could be an inflection point in history and we should demand grown-up approaches to the important subjects of our day if they're going to be dragged out into the sunlight (like the monsters in the show).
Also? Just on a regular cinematic level it's not overly scary or mystical or interesting or.... anything. It's mostly just hamfisted. 100 years of cinema? We deserve better now. We should demand better now, as an audience.
Edit: Awesome cast, btw. Like the acting. Could've been put to better use...
