I first saw this movie on the late, late show when I was about 10 or 11.
(that would have been around 1970ish). It had always remained in the
back of my mind - and I could only remember snipets. I purchased on DVD about 2004 or 5 and put it on the shelf. Today, as I was looking through my collection I saw this and pulled it out, popped into the player,
and sat back. I love Shirley MacLaine and consider her the Barbara Stanwyck of the early 60's but this is not one of her better performances.
Although, she DOES look stunning in many of the scenes. Her male co-
stars do the best they can with the material they have to work with but it just doesn't have the impact I remember as a kid. It is not a terrible movie
and my tastes have evolved in the more than 50 years since I first saw it.
It is not a must see - but the Oscar nomination in 1964 for Best Art Direction / Set Decoration seems well placed. Good for a rainy afternoon.
