I didn’t even know this was a movie until after I recently read the book. Then, after learning that someone did make film based on the book; I watched and discovered this wasn’t what I imagined it would be at all. A bit of a disservice to the book. The book lets you into Vic’s world a bit more and explains the relationship between Vic and Melinda, both of those things would have improved the film. So much of what is happening in the book is happening in Vic’s head and he would have been a much more interesting protagonist had the movie included this. Ana de Armas’ Melinda appeared to have been written much more true to how Melinda is in the book and she played it well. Read the book. It has better twists!

Reluctantly agreed to see this film and was completely surprised by how entertained I was! I laughed out loud more than I had to turn away from the gore. Fun from beginning to end. Immediately you’re made aware of how not serious this film is and then you’re struck by how many actors are in it. It’s insane and ridiculous and completely unbelievable and has its fair share of blood and gore. I highly recommend it. If you gave this film less than three stars, you’re WAY too uptight and should learn to enjoy life more.

Late to both reading the book and to watching the miniseries adaptation. Loved the book. To me, the book recognizes how being a mother is not generic or something that comes naturally to everyone and that backgrounds and life experience affect that. I felt empathy towards each of these women in the book. I didn’t feel empathy toward anyone except Izzy in the 1.5 episodes I was able to get through. I tried to understand why the Hulu adaptation felt the need to go hard on stereotyping Mia as a woman, a black woman, a single mother and an artist through her own actions and not just Elena’s rigid and narrow-minded views. I couldn’t get past it. The additions and changes made little sense to me. Can’t recommend.

Enjoyed “The Story of Queen: Mercury Rising” on Amazon SOOOOO much more than this homogenized bio-pic. Very difficult to get through and it had me rolling my eyes each time they busted out one of their hits. Nothing of substance here aside from the Live Aid performance at the end which was moving.

Resisted this for a long time because the title didn’t interest me. Decided to watch because I read it was supposed to be great. From the start my partner and I felt it was like watching an extremely long episode of VH-1 Behind the Music with an incredible lack of depth. It all feels incredibly cliche and nearly everything about the performances and story falls flat. We’re not finished watching it yet and aren’t in any hurry to finish it.
