As a Cuban American I was super stoked to watch this with my mama, but I was just a little disappointed. It didn’t really capture the essence of Cuban culture, or Miami for that matter. The older characters were very sweet and I even liked gabby… to a certain degree. The music felt really out of place and didn’t feel Cuban at all, it just kinda felt like in the heights but… not as good. I also felt like making the antagonists (although nit quite sure you could call them that bc of how loose the plot is) environmentalists was an unnecessary cheap dig. Not to mention the boat…??? My mom took a lot of issues with the raft/boat situation in particular. Just a little yknow, not cool. Idk I was really excited for this movie but it fell short. I was hoping for a fun story that recognizes the hardships of Cubans/ Cuban Americans and celebrated our culture but that’s not really what we got unfortunately
