Season 1-4 show runner Clyde Phillips is back and shows us that he’s still got it. He understands Dexter better than anyone else and treats the fans with a continuation of the story of Dexter Morgan in the aftermath of season 8. Establishing what kind of life Dexter had made for himself and how he keeps himself “clean”. The alternate life he lives and the alias he lives under. Tons of nods for the old fans, like bringing his boss pastries at work. Like he did at Miami Metro every morning. The episode crescendos with Dexter finally accepting that no matter how much time goes by. He will always be Dexter Morgan and he can’t ignore who he is. In a time where revivals are a dime a dozen and done for cash grabs. It’s nice to finally be treated to a show that has come back because it still has a story to tell. Breathing new life into an old IP. And that even though Dexter Morgan is out of practice, he is still as capable as ever.
