Say goodbye to Bobby Boucher, Happy Gilmore, and the Zohan, and say hello to Howard Ratner, a Jewish New York jewelry store owner who takes big risks in hopes for the big reward. Don't get me wrong, I like Adam Sandler's on-the-couch comedies as much as the next guy, but Sandler's performance as Ratner is electric, making him worthy of the recent Oscar buzz he has been getting. The Safdie brother's direction creates a constant feeling of chaos and suspense mainly through their unique use of noise and their soundtrack, as Ratner tries to juggle his debt to mobsters, gambling addiction, struggling family life, and still pull off the deal that can save it all. If you're still not convinced to go see Uncut Gems, Kevin Garnett's acting ability and the Weeknd's' live performance, should push you over the edge. A must see!
