Contrived nonsense. Amaturish plot with huge logic gaps, and spritzes of gratuitous cheesecake and nudity. Miscellaneous characters are thrown in to.pad out lack of real story. Eastwood's direction and performance are ok, but he should have gotten a script doctor to make the story make sense, and liven up the often banal dialogue.

This is such a fun book to read! Cronkrite is a born storyteller in the grand old southern tradition. In dozens of short stories and often hilarioius anecdotes, he recounts his life which goes from tragedy to racing triumph. He's had one of those lives that seems almost too incredible to be true. He gave Dale Earnhardt his first NASCAR ride; he worked with Burt Reynolds on his racing movies; worked with Smokey Yunick during NASCAR's golden era. This is an uplifting, and often thrilling, memoir of an unforgettable American original.
