I am SO grateful to have stumbled, randomly, across this pic a few years back. It has everything a girl could want in a foreign language/martial arts/ period piece. This one raised the bar for any that will attempt to follow.
There are many elements that elevate this movie to the level of โepicโ... and itโs hard, for me, to definitively nail down the ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ด๐ต notable of them.
But, at the top would have to be the storyโs characters. They really do stay with you and have resonated with me in a way that very few other things have ever managed.
( Please note: ** I watched this originally in the midst of a frenzied binge of dozens of martial arts films when I was sick with strep throat... while most of them became a somewhat, singular blur, this movie did not**)
The story and itโs characters are well written and as convincing as original in the telling.
This being made to complete, with a few stylized elements, that I found fresh & unexpected tho entirely well suited for use in the genre.
All the many parts lead to the whole package being beautifully executed.
Somehow still manages this, (in a way that stays true) with the dialogue to English being delivered via sub tittles... and that is saying something!
I wish there were a sequel or a prequel or some way thru which I could get another dose of this world and itโs characters.
In my humble opinion, itโs amazing. Nothing less..
but watch for yourself and decide if Iโm right. Reviews are often completely useless in my opinion! thanks for reading my rant, if you made it this far... ๐t
