A rather spooky movie that get more plausible for awhile then bring one to the edge of "really, could this really happen?" In real life, probably not,but it gathers strength in it's eeriness. Paddy Considine plays his part well as Robert, the befuddled,hurt, divorcee seemingly in a constant daze as he's kicked around by cruel fate,embodied by demonic ex-wife Nickie who delivers her cold thrusts of endless hurt to Robert effortlessly. The onslaught of relationship violence gradually creeps up on the viewer as dazed Robert becomes more and more entangled in a web of cosmic blows that he can't escape. One is left feeling sympathy for Robert yet still wondering "could this really happen"?

Quietly excellent. Surprise ending. Decidedly British in showing the raw nerves of human emotion clashing over seemingly large issues in a small town where class and power wars with the universal human yearning of equality and realizing ones private dreams made public.
