This is what would happen if David Fincher decided to give Se7en a happy ending… and it’s just as bad as you may expect.
While Horsemen is a fairly interesting movie, it’s obvious that it is trying to be like Se7en: a crime thriller revolving around serial killers with a focus on biblical executions. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but Horsemen doesn’t do much to deviate from its obvious inspiration. The main difference is that there are multiple killers as opposed to one killer.
[Spoilers] Unfortunately, the kills aren’t very creative or symbolic. I was assuming that the kills would be varied and each one be attributed to some aspect of the victim. Alas, it’s chalked up to the victims being hung on fishhooks and getting necklaces that match each horseman.
The pacing is atrocious, and scenes that should be stretched out whiz by before you can process what’s going on. The acting is hit or miss. There are genuinely well-acted moments, but then there’s moments where the campiness is cranked up to 11. And the ending… needless to say, it was unpredictable in the worst way possible. For a film like this, I was fully expecting This is what would happen if David Fincher decided to give Se7en a happy ending… and it’s just as bad as you may expect.

Overall, I’m not sure I can recommend this. That being said, I did find it entertaining enough to sit through and it’s more mediocre than straight up terrible.
