The history portrayed here is very interesting. The writing was straightforward and easy to read. I do think it went on too long and contained too many anecdotes about insignificant characters. They felt more like caricatures than characters at times. The introduction of homosexuality and anonymous sex felt quite gratuitous, contributing nothing to the saga. I had just finished reading the Shadow of the Wind. It was like going from Brie to Velveeta!
