This book, The Prince and the Pauper, which I have had lying around our home since it was removed from a school library in the late 1980s, was a 10th printing in U.S.A 1972, and is an abridged edition.
I picked up the book recently, and what I read in the introduction, even at my 85 years of age, fascinated my imagination. This was a must read for me.
For Mark Twain, '...a boy born in the lowest slum family.... ' to have had the ability, whether through gift or poverty, to visualize and create such a fictional story, portrayed as reality, showed an amazing insight into his remarkable life of story telling and writing abilities, during the era of Henry VIII.
I am going to give this copy I have, to my coming up, 15 year old granddaughter whose birthday is later this inst. I would recommend this book for all ages.
