As far as Halo goes, this isn't a game in which you are an unstoppable super soldier shielded by the Mjolnir armor. You are an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, an ODST. Not weak, not strong, just a soldier. Unlike the other games in which you fight alongside marines, face countless enemies against all odds, you are alone (for most of the game anyway). Starting off you play as the Rookie, the strong, yet silent protagonist.
You crash land into the streets of New Mombasa, a war torn city on the brink of being glassed. Isolated from your ODST squad, you search for your comrades. All the while slipping past the enemy forces who are out for blood. Accompanied by jazz and hard falling rain, you silently eliminate any brute, jackal, or grunt who falls in your way. Slowly picking up a trail of your squad mates with help from the superintendent, New Mombasa's urban infrastructure AI. With each clue comes a story, entering different character perspectives such as Buck, Mickey, Dutch, and Romeo. These perspective changes are about the only time you'll get to experience some back and forth combat with the covenant.
That good balancing is why ODST has a special place in my heart. In this game you get both, action packed firefights, and that stealthy feel. ODST is definitely one of favorite games and is totally worth checking out.
TROOPERS! WE ARE GREEN, AND VERY, VERY MEAN!
