Bournville Girl

I can’t understand why this had such bad reviews. Each to their own I guess. As a Brit I found it hilarious to send up the posh toffs, so let’s not take ourselves to seriously eh? The acting was fabulous and Johnny, as in all his characters, was exceptional. Paul Bettany’s character was so entertaining as the ‘manservant’. It was a tongue-in-cheek, fun, family film that doesn’t deserve the bad reviews it received.

Oh dear I’m swimming against the tide here (but please respect my opinion nonetheless). Ok…. I found the lead sisters irritating to the point I struggled to watch this. The acting skills of the younger sister especially was atrocious. I found myself shouting at the screen each time she pushed her sister towards a particular character (you know who!) Had there not been other fabulous sub-plots, I would have switched off. The elder sisters’ ‘dislike’ of said character was exhausting and drawn out to death. The costumes, music and feel of each episode was exquisite. It was a shame this series centred around a storyline which was slow, irritating, boring to get involved with and involved atrocious acting.

What a complete waste of my time. The Korean publicity machine appears to be extremely effective. It is boring, badly written, badly acted, has little plot and a totally anticlimactic ending. I’ve read some 5 star reviews on here examining the series in detail. They remind me of the couple who visited a modern art museum and were trying to contextualise one particular piece. They asked the assistant who created it, only to be told it was a fire extinguisher, leaving a bemused and embarrassed couple behind. People are sheep, and sadly there are plenty on Netflix.
