The novel is a book about surviving through the turns life gives you as throughout the book Pierrot has to survive both of his parents dying and him becoming an orphan. He has to survive living in a time where French and German people didn’t get along and he was stuck in between. He survives being tangled up with the Nazis. I highly recommend reading this book as it’s so hard to put down and shows you the world as it was in the 1930s which makes it heartbreaking, 4/5
