Absolutely horrifying! I never felt so much scared about a time where I never existed.
This is made ONLY to discomfort viewers, and show the real cruelty of slavery. I have had so many plot twists that I left my mind open for anything to happen, but still it left me shocked and terrified. This is clearly not a show for kids, neither is this a show for those who believe only in the good parts of slavery. What this show is meant for is how the African American community was brought up, tortured and imprisoned, enslaved and worked up until death. The amount of n-words on this show is too much, even for 1800’s. I can’t say about the historical accuracy about this thing but it is in the best interest of the viewer to understand the story, rather than quick to Judge. The beauty is in heart, not the colour of your skin or the freckles you have in your face. True love exists in anywhere and everywhere regardless of race, and white people took that away from Slaves as much as possible. The African American culture is much more diverse and much more vibrant than any other race in America. But it just goes to show, how that culture came in and how it ended up, this is the perfect representation of “poor but happy, weak but alive and chained but free”. Never going to watch this show ever again, but this will stay in my mind. Keeping the memory of the oppressed people will show how strong and resilient we used to be, and how much better we are as a society.
