A very different show from the original, some will love it for that and some will hate it for the very reason. The child actors didn't have a lot of range in their acting ability except for Sokka, but I look forward to a second season where they'll undoubtedly grow into their roles. Furthermore, I didn't like the changes made to Azula's character and some of the dialogue was a little one the nose, but overall, I had a good time with the show.

As a fan of the anime, if you're going into this expecting it to be a note for note recreation, you'll be disappointed. This show takes it's own liberties, but unlike most anime adaption changes, all of it feels like it could be cannon. The actors all do a spectacular job, although, it feels like it takes them a few episodes to get into the groove of things. The show starts off a little slow, but really takes off on episode 4 and never looks back. Like the original show, you need to give it time, anyone writing a review after only seeing an episode or two won't get a full understanding of this series. This show has a lot of things going for it, the blood, the gore, the sex appeal, the cast working together well etc. I especially love the action scenes with Vicious. The actor did such a good job that the scenes with him and the syndicate almost felt like I was watching a kung-fu movie, I liked it. The secondary villains were also really cool and interesting. Ultimately, while the acting can be flat at times and the sets/costumes can seem like bad cosplay in the wrong lighting, not to mention it's complete lack of the melancholy of the original, it's the best live action adaptation of an anime I've ever seen. I guarantee that if the hardcore anime fans don't like it, the casual Netflix audience will. 5/5 Stars! Show comparisons: Gotham, Umbrella Academy

What I enjoyed about this show is it's diversity. It wasn't afraid to show the audience things they're not used to seeing. It's not everyday you see an Asian girl in a wheelchair on a sitcom. It was refreshing seeing characters that suffer from both mental and physical disabilities portrayed on TV. It made the show feel so relatable as these issues affect all kids either directly or indirectly. Unfortunately, I couldn't rate this show higher than two stars for several reasons. First off, the parents are unnecessarily goofy and stereotypical. There was no originality put their characters whatsoever. Plus, the actors that played the parents almost felt like they were on a different show in comparison to the grounded child lead. The faces they would make were unbearable and off putting. Most importantly, the show's portrayal of social anxiety is very inaccurate. If you're going to touch on topics like this, you should at least consult with experts or people who suffer from anxiety etc. It's clear that the writers of this show didn't. If they did, they'd know that social anxiety is not a fear of people as portrayed in this show. Social anxiety is a fear of judgement based on irrational beliefs one has about themselves. For example, someone with social anxiety will avoid socializing out of an irrational fear of being seen as physically or mentally inadequate etc. Lastly, my final problem with the show is that it seems to focus too much on the main characters limitations. It feels like every conversation he has centers around his anxiety, it's not realistic. If this show gets another season, I hope they address the glaring issues because it can be a solid show if they do.
