I knew about Bob Fosse previous to the show, but not much about Gwen Verdon. Michelle Williams performance is amazing. Williams acted from head to toe: her expressions, mannerisms, a voice that changes as she gets older from alcohol and cigarettes, and her body movement combine to make the character fully formed and real. The big surprise is what a talented singer and dancer Michelle Williams is!

This movie wrecked me in all the best ways. The movie is ostensibly about Jonathan Larson trying to get his show workshopped, but it is so much more. It’s about the manic drive to create, relationships, selling out (or not) and for anyone who lived through the AIDS epidemic in the 1990’s, it’s a reminder that at the time, getting a diagnosis of AIDS was a death sentence. I can’t stop thinking about it.
