The movie has got a good few shortcomings. They set out to break tropes, but then settle back into them.
What I enjoyed was that they never showed the "monsters", which does a lot of good for the movie, though I feel that they missed out on something that could have been excellent. They could have done more in those two hours.
I see why people compare it to 'A Quiet Place", except it falls short, just barely getting a toe in.
Edit: While I was watching, I also had a feeling that it was a cross between "The Happening", and "A Quiet Place". Which sort of (in my head) seems to be the reason while it is a bit flat.
However, I enjoyed it, not a total waste of time.
