A lot of the plot line is actually somewhat intriguing, with reasonable twists. But, it's not a classic, won't win any awards, and nobody's going to stand around the water cooler talking about the show.
It's clearly a movie produced by women. I support that. For the last decade, women have become the focal point of movies, getting roles / scripts that were traditionally filled by men. In this series, women are being women, but they're sure taking on a lot of the negative stereotypes of men. I don't see the purpose in that. Take the positive ones, there aren't that many!
Whether male or female stars, I'm not particularly interested in seeing someone become a predator trying to get laid within seconds of meeting someone random. Not to mention the prospects of emotional scars, unwanted pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases. Sure, some of those risks can be mitigated, but it's not being portrayed.
My biggest complaint is the repetitive use of the f-word. These are sharp women, not dumb sailors. Nothing is added to the comedy, drama, mystery, etc in the script by inserting f*** every four words. It's actually a distraction. And I'm not against swearing! I do it myself, although I try to do it by myself. No point in unleashing that on others.
I like Christina Applegate, but would prefer to see fewer bursts of anger (a reasonable number is fine) and the use of a richer vocabulary. Not that I'm some great thesaurus. ;-)
