The performances are top notch and it certainly allows room to let narrative breathe, but the greatest disappointment is the total lack of actual horror and or tension. If you’re going to allow so much time for existential musing, ecumenical monologues and sermons there has to be a pay off. There is no real build of tension as the ‘twists’ are all so obvious as to be completely blunted. A real case of the emperors new clothes. A shame because I think Flanaghan’s previous work was genuinely scary in the right way.
