This is easily the best work of art I’ve seen in years. Not an ounce of Wilson’s aching poetry is lost in the transition to film. The entire cast is fantastic but Chadwick Boseman left us a profound gift with his performance and Viola Davis is nowhere to be found in her performance as Ma Rainey.

I thought it was masterfully directed and honestly performed. The cast is fantastic, and do one hit a false note. True to the source, but genuinely, touchingly modern.
