Let’s get this out of the way first: this game is gorgeous. The island looks amazing and it is so fun and exciting to find new species and collect them. I can tell there are a myriad of fun, new, exciting things to try. But that’s just it. I can only speculate. I can’t experience them. I don’t know who’s plan it was to implement a hard-stop in the game’s story less than 3 hours in with a mandatory requirement of progression being having to wait until 0500 (at the earliest!) the following day until you can continue with story progression. I have never been more frustrated with a video game in my life and I play FPS games competitively. I picked my copy up at 10:00am on the 20th as GameStop cancelled all their midnight releases. I got home, excitedly started playing animal crossing only to find out a paltry 2 1/2 hours later that there is _NOTHING_ I can do until the following day. I can beat my head against the wall and grind running circles around the outside edge of the island collecting seashells, fish, bugs, and occasionally wood. But other than that, I’m stuck. There’s no progressing past this point. Dear Nintendo, please fire whoever incepted this piss-poor game mechanic. I’m super okay with the game happening in real time. I have no quarrels with games having exclusive day/night experiences. I however feel that implementing an arbitrary “wait time” to continue storyline progression is absurd.
