I feel one could describe this movie as a pure piece of art and art is subjective. I could not look away. Just as a masterpiece sometimes has that one hint of ugliness, so did this film. I felt it was all necessary to make you feel the emotions, to tell the story and to make you think about it long after it was over. I think with out all the provocative scenes, it would not be taking up this space in my head right now. It would have been another fluffy movie with no real meat to cut into if not for the ugly.
While it was unlike anything I had ever seen before I felt as if it was taking place during the same time as Tim Burton's Willie Wonka, with it's whimsical steam punk setting and surreal sky's.
There is too much to say about the actors so I would have to write another review about them. But, bravo to all of the actors in it, especially Stone and Ruffalo. There were a few other surprise actors in the film that I did not expect as well.
This is not a movie to watch with many people or children around as there are many scenes that deal with sex. Some may argue that there was too much sex. But again, necessary to make you feel, think and be perhaps even flabbergasted. It took me a bit to process Poor Things and I would definitely recommend this movie to those who like to think.
