A privileged, attractive, white girl has ‘troubles’ cause she’s a bit taller than the average person. I get the whole “kids will make fun of anything” thing or whatever but it’s pretty insulting that they make an entire movie about this entitled girl (who has no reason to complain cause a lot of models are very tall) who acts like her life is oh so terrible because she focuses on one slightly negative thing.
As I said before, it’s insulting because there are things that are so bad in the world and this chick is really mad about her being a couple inches over the average girl. Like what’s that about?
Netflix needs to focus on actual issues, not whatever this is. It’s almost as if this movie was depicted a lot longer ago because I seriously doubt anyone’s going to get made fun of for being tall. If she’s like 7 foot or something then she’ll probably get a few comments but not a whole lot. She clearly has money, friends, family, she’s attractive, and seemingly has no mental health issues. So what’s the problem here? I genuinely don’t understand how anyone could enjoy this movie.
An example of an actually plausible situation where a kid that got bullied managed to love himself in the end was Glees “Kurt”. The actor himself was severely bullied (as he was in the show) and still managed to come out on top. (In the show) He was pushed into lockers, beaten up, and cursed at, all for his sexuality. Even his own step-brother used slurs at him. One of his bullies actually turned out to be gay himself and assaulted him. He ended up happy, with a boyfriend (which eventually becomes his husband) and the couple was a statement for people all around the world that made them feel included. After seeing the show, many families reached out to their children who they had previously disowned due to their sexuality.
In my opinion, this movie is a slap in the face to all the movies and shows that try to show awareness for actual issues and Netflix really needs to do better.
I’m all for self love and acceptance , but this movie was very badly executed.
