I've played video games my entire life and this game is by far the longest I have ever consistently and continuously played a game. I got Siege soon after it released and haven't put it down since. Its one of the most difficult and challenging games I have ever played not only from an FPS perspective, but from a mental standpoint as well. Consequently, It is also one of the most rewarding gaming experience of my life.
Every match is different thanks to diverse and varied maps along with the existence of a large variety of different operators, each offering something unique to the game. There is no feeling like being in a mental chess match with the enemy team as you scout out their defenses and work with your team to slowly chip away. As you play the game more and more, your game awareness increases allowing you to take decisive action to try to get the win regardless of odds.
The biggest reason why this game has held me for so long is the commitment Ubisoft has made to the game providing free maps (or redesigns) and 2 new operators every season. The seasons themselves are consistent and their schedule very predictable which is fantastic for the player base. While new operators are very expensive (25,000 renown when they first release) It is completely feasible for players to collect that much and unlock them.
And while the newer operators are blocked by high renown costs, the original operators are still very low (2,000 renown) and some are arguably better if not equally as good as the DLC ones, make the playing field fair and even.
A couple of pointers: If you plan on getting this game, I would HIGHLY suggest you purchase a decent headset. Sound plays an extremely important role in this game as it is one of the most fundamental information gathering tools you have. I have won countless matches thanks to me hearing the enemy before I see them. In connection with this, If you plan on playing ranked in the game, I would highly suggest having a mic with your headset. A team communicating will win more times than not.
The game is not without its flaws. The one I want to touch on and focus on is the small minority of the player base that embraces toxic behavior. When the game first came out the player base was largely older teens and younger adults. as a result, the fanbase was probably the most friendly and mature in gaming at the time. But as the game has grown more popular, younger players and players looking to cause trouble have change everything. Team killing and general toxic behavior and flat out rudeness has increased exponentially and made the game not enjoyable at times.
Ubisoft made an important step with the implementation of reverse friendly fire however more needs to be done in terms of enforcement. The most common thing that ruins my day in siege are people who will jump onto voice chat to verbally abuse you because you weren't able to get a kill or clutch a match. Then it escalates further when people try to remove you from the match or if that fails, their first move will be to kill you next match. It sours your mood and playing experience. There is an ingame report button however their is a wide spread belief that the report function does almost nothing.
Its makes mature players who just want to enjoy the game feel powerless. If they only informed us that action was taken against a player we have reported we might feel more engaged and it might act as a deterrent.
But overall, siege is a game that will have you hooked for literally years. I strongly suggest it and stick with it. Its a tough game and will take time to get the hang of. It is also much more enjoyable with friends. If you don't have any who play siege, I can almost guarantee you that you'll find one eventually in siege.
