I suspect it was to provide and contain a higher concentration of oxygen, O2 to the patient as covid-19 lungs are less efficient filling with fluid! If that was negative pressure, I apologize, but thin sheets of plastic sheets wouldn't seem to have much structural integrity for pressure or vacuum. Stay safe!
