As the first game of this franchise was for a long time my favorite, I was disappointed to play the second game. It’s impossible not to compare The Last of Us Part II to it’s predecessor, and from that comparison, many negative points can be found, first the story, while the first game had a very interesting and compelling story, which represented an emotional journey full of tension, overcoming of loss, and love, the second one represents a unrealistic version of what loss is, as the main character seeks only one thing throughout the game, “revenge”, as if revenge were to solve anything. The interactions of the characters seem a little disturbed, and differently from the first one, there is no emotion, the growth of characters like Ellie and Joel seemingly represented nothing, as they don’t seem to have evolved, the gameplay and graphics of the game though are incredible, they successfully represent the end of a generation of consoles, and make the player feel immersed. But although the feeling of playing The Last of Us Part II might be nostalgic, when playing the game, there seems to be no reason, as the characters do not grow with the experience, and all the emotion is instead focused on the playable guitars, that can be found throughout the game. The villain per se is far from relatable, and the story is forced down the guts of the players, as they are obligated to play a uninteresting character for an average of 10 hours. In the end, The Last of Us Part II is a game that promised what it could not bring, it promised to be as good, or better than the first one, but ended up falling into the abyss of video games with a story that doesn’t matter, as the only objective is to kill anyone.
