Well it came as a random suggestion on a popular movie site, on reading the plot (which you can find above) it looked to me as some B-movie with some "hot stuff" :P. BUT.. I was blown off...
If you like slow-paced story telling and love movies with deep ideas then you will find this movie moving.
PLOT:
1930s a British officer named John Truscott (Hugh Dancy) is assigned to a remote village in Malaysia with people known as the Iban people; as a part of on-going colonization he is tasked with modernization of the local population, learn their customs and traditions and to know them better overall.
But the locals have a strange custom - since you are new and don't know their native language they will assign you a young and beautiful lady from their community to... sleep with you :P and teach you everything you need to know about them.
Our officer is given Selima (Jessica Alba), a lovely calm intelligent but caring woman. Days pass and following the age-old custom leads them to the unknown territory of love.
But as fate is never without an element of surprise our officer gets posted somewhere else, he has to leave the village. The same custom that brought them together now orders them to separate.
What will happen?
Should he forget this and move-on or should he fight against the Iban people and his officials to get his love back?
You have to find out.
