I picked this up a few days ago and have already cleared the story once. I have to give this 5 stars. While the gameplay has its quirks, the only stuff done to this remaster were graphical tweaks for the most part, which I personally think look great - the aesthetic captures the realism of the humans and environments while maintaining the goofy, cartoonish look of the ghosts and blends them very nicely. A lot of reviews I’ve seen approach this game from the perspective of a modern gamer, which I think is unfair for this game. As I said, most of the tweaks are graphical, so the mechanics are pretty much the same, and for a game that came out originally in 2009, it feels pretty tight. I get a strong Dead Space vibe from the implementation of the minimal hud through indicators on the proton pack, and even through switching weapons depending on what kind of enemy you’re fighting. One thing I will say that surprised me; parts of this game were challenging in ways that caught me off guard, and I found myself loving the combat in spite of that. Sure, I had to fight a couple of bosses and run a few encounters quite a few times, but that only made the sense of accomplishment that much greater when I finally caught the slimebags. The game itself was fairly short and the weapon variety is limited, but I don’t feel that detracts from the experience. Having always loved the Ghostbusters franchise, this game feels like a carefully constructed homage to the first two movies. I would even go so far as to say it’s the sequel we deserved. Extra credit for the fully-destructible Confederate display in the museum scene (I destroyed everything, honestly, but I definitely took my time to make sure all of the Confederate memorabilia was totally demolished). 10/10 will play this several more times. I can’t recommend it any more highly, especially since it’s only $12 on PS4 right now. If you’re a Ghostbusters fan, don’t hesitate - play this game.
