After watching the trailer I decided it looked truly terrible and I wouldn’t watch it… I wish I had trusted my instincts! This is the worst adaptation of a Jane Austen novel I have ever seen. Everything that is beautiful and subtle about the book they ignored, and just made their version. It’s so heavily borrowed from Fleabag, that it’s embarrassing. Then they clearly just thought throw in a dose of Bridgerton and Bridget Jones diary and had a quick scan through a Wikipedia summary of the novel…
It’s a book about what it meant to be a woman at that time - entirely defined by your marital status. To be basically middle aged and on the shelf (not young and one of the most beautiful women in the world!) and seeing the love of your life interested in other women while you are fading away. But then to find your voice again, and be seen, and finally get the man back who you have loved for so long. This is really one of the worst films I have ever seen.
