Don't bother! This irredeemably bad film puzzlingly combines an annoying plot and poor writing with excellent acting which still can't save it. The violin-saturated score constantly reminds the viewer how tragic this scenario is. Did a single actor think to say, wait -- I changed my mind -- this is awful?!

This fairy tale set in the 17th century focuses on the struggle between superstition and reality, and love versus control, conflicts that remain relevant today. I loved this original and beautifully acted movie.

Recommended to me as "dark comedy" this film was horrifying, demoralizing.

Because my own centromeres are crumbly stubs like useless brittle pencil erasers, I feared this movie would depress me. No worry there! While the idea is interesting the film is comically bad, like a 50s cult classic. I assume all involved participated only in order to earn money for vaccine shipments to underdeveloped countries.

This was filmed in the lovely forests where Pyle hiked to the Columbia Gorge 30 years ago. Movie features no violence, racism, pandemics, political dissent, mass unemployment, global instability.
