This movie isn't going to do much for most audiences (though I'm sure it has its fans), It's boring and forgettable. I guarantee that most who discover this movie and decide to watch it will not find it particularly entertaining or really worth their time. The trailer makes it look like a smart rom-com, but in reality this movie didn't know what it wanted to be, it's just weird and boring. The way this movie is written, shot, and edited, it honestly feels like an ameatur film student's first movie. It focused way more on trying to make some "profound" artistic statement than it was trying to tell an interesting good story. It's also very pretentious, which is annoying considering the writing isn't nearly as smart as the movie thinks it is. There are some good ideas (based off the book, presumably) but they really aren't executed well. This movie has a particularly odd tone and sense of reality. It's unique, yes, but unfortunately it's also boring and you just don't care watching it. The setting seems to be in the real world (commenting on how marketing business works and the morality behind it), but watching it, it feels a lot more abstract than it is grounded in reality. I suppose this was intentional as part of the statement this movie was trying to make, but personally it made me feel like I couldn't get emotionally invested in the characters because they were too conceptual. It didn't help that the plot meandered with no sense of direction (feels unprofessionally put together, really choppy), which is the main thing that made it boring to watch. The only good thing I can think of is Amber Heard's performance, not fantastic but I think she worked well with what she had (not a particularly strong script). I think her character was the strongest and most interesting to watch. She has a certain aesthetic the movie focuses on, and honestly the style choices in this movie aren't that bad and I see where they were going with it. But there's really not much else to the good visuals. The romance between Six and Scatt is all set-up with no real payoffs. It's supposed to be the heart of the story, yet we don't really get to delve into it and get emotionally invested, it's really glazed over as the plot continues to meander and suddenly jump back and forth. It really does feel that way watching this movie. It's a shame because there was potential here. This movie does have a unique style, characters, and premise that I'm sure will earn it some fans... it just didn't do it for me. Too poorly executed. I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone unless they were very interested to see it for themselves to discover if it's a hidden gem (which it really isn't). If you saw the trailer and liked the quick, smart humor and style it was going for, I'd recommend watching the Ocean's trilogy. It's not perfect, but it's way better than this bland syrup.
