For the most part I enjoy C.N.N. programming. Cuomo can be somewhat abrasive to guests, as he should be. I would really like to see C.N.N. devote more time to critical issues like global warming. This president ignores the problem, and many of his supporters are not intelligent enough to question his lack of concern. As a Canadian born in 1945, I have seen witnessed many weather related events. I was born and raised in Toronto at a time when air conditioning was not common. We would experience heat waves with temperatures often hitting above 90' F for 3 or 4 days in a row. Summers did seem to vary, but in short cycles. They now refer to this as El Nino, and La Nina. We didn't have the extremes we have now.
I live in Peterborough, which is about 80 miles ENE of Toronto. The winter of 2017-18 was weird, even by my standards. We had cold snowy weather starting mid December through January. February was unusually warm, then March fairly seasonable, but April was the coldest and snowiest I can remember. The summer of 2018 was hot from June 1st. through the end of September. In mid October we had cooler than normal temperatures, then November brought snow and cold. The last week of November we had two nights when the temperature broke all time low records. The old record was -17c. We hit -18c one night and hit -20c 2 nights later. December was almost completely void of snow, and we had conditions more like a normal November, than December. Since January 1st., our weather has been snowy and bloody cold.
What this seems to indicate is that there are far more extremes than we ever experienced while I was growing up. The wildfires in California were the worst on record. Fires burned out of control in central Ontario during July and August because of the drought. Our Maritime provinces had even more extremes. Last year they had 4 or 5 Nor-easters with hurricane strength winds in a period of about 4 weeks. Even one of these storms was one in century event. Parts of Texas had more snow last fall than Alaska.
Conservative politicians seem to ignore these events, figure they're normal. Not so. Trump refuses to accept that global warming does present a major problem, as do conservative politicians in Canada. We have to convince all people that this is a very real and serious situation.
It behooves any serious media to ignore the perils we face. It has to be put front and centre with respect to crises that need attention and resolution. It should be given proper coverage even if Trump doesn't think it ought to be. Poor Trump with his need for attention should be put on the back burners while the nations of the world deal with global warming.
