I only just finished chapter 1 but it's already SO GOOD! When the first time I watch the trailer and know about the protagonist's super power is to feel people's emotions, I thought it was kinda lame so I keep my expectations low because I thought it's not gonna work. Turns out I'm very wrong!
This game really play with your emotions. If you doesn't feel anything, it's probably you didn't pay enough attention to the dialogue and the little details being put in the game like reading the SMS, journal, letters, and social media. When I play it, I feel like the characters are alive, too real.
Although the atmosphere when the characters talk can be awkward sometimes, so far, the story and characters are so well written. I didn't expect at all to get attached to the characters as early as chapter 1! That ending to chapter 1 has left a hole in my heart....
As for the graphics, it's easily the best from the LiS franchise. When the characters talk, their mouth is synced to what they talk. Because this game is centered on emotions, it's bad if they fail at creating realistic facial expression. Thankfully, Deck Nine also nailed it in that department.
For the gameplay, there's not much difference with other LiS games of course and we all expected that. except that in True Colors, we have more mini games? I really appreciate when video games had that. That temporary distraction sometimes can help me to restore my attention to the game when my mind has started to drift away due to the slow, repeated gameplay.
In conclusion, the best way to play this game is to take your time understanding the characters and exploring the details to get that immersive experience. If you don't like to do that, this game is maybe not for you. But I'm sure most people who play this game already play LiS before so that shouldn't be an issue. This is maybe too early to say but I think this game has the potential to even beat LiS 1!
